Skincare Tips & AdviceThis is a featured page

Having nice skin is one of the most sought after cosmetic pursuits known, and for very good reason. A healthy and glowing complexion speaks of vivacity and vigor, and clean, clear skin is a benefit to anyone. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. Oily, pimply, irritated skin makes a person look less than ideal.

Bad skin is a curse for many, and as a result, there are many solutions to the problem available. Sadly, many of them will never work and are simply a modern version of snake oil. The truth about acne treatment is that they do not have to be expensive or complicated at all.

Acne is caused by bacteria, plain and simple. It is not caused by the foods that you eat, or any particular lifestyle choices. While genetics do play a role, that only has to do with the tendency toward problem skin. It is the bacteria that settle in the pores of the skin that causes the trouble.

When the bacterium is present, white blood cells attack it, as they attack any sort of infection. These blood cells die within the pore, and this is what causes the painful white heads and pustules. Attacking the bacteria slows the whole process and provides an environment conducive to clearer skin.

There are medications available, with a prescription that will greatly decrease the amount of bacteria being produced on the skin. However, you will need a doctor's permission, and the drugs can be expensive. Fortunately, there are methods you can incorporate on your own to deal with the problem.

Obviously, keeping the skin clean is vital. But the secret is to not overdo it. Too much washing, with harsh soaps and chemicals, can acerbate the condition instead of easing it. Wash with a mild soap, once or twice a day and you will be doing just fine. Minimal use of makeup or facial creams will help, too.

Of course, a healthy diet will improve your looks overall, and that would include the skin. But diet is not the cause, so eat right for general reasons and not specifically as an acne treatment. The same is true of exercise. Do it for overall health, and the skin will look nicer because of it.

The greatest known source of acne causing bacteria is stress. So the best acne treatment will be any practice that you can do that will reduce stress. Yoga, meditation, prayer, walking, or whatever will help ease the stresses of everyday living. Find what works for you and practice it regularly. You skin will show the difference over time.
